The Biggest Premier League Clubs: Titles, Stadiums and History

Matchday at a big football club stadium

Twenty clubs play in the Premier League each season, but six of them, often called the “Big Six”, have dominated the league financially and on the pitch. Here is what every fan should know about each of them.

Manchester United

Stadium: Old Trafford (about 74,000)
Premier League titles: 13

Manchester United were the defining club of the early Premier League era. Under Sir Alex Ferguson they won 13 league titles and the 1999 treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. Since Ferguson retired in 2013 the club has gone through several managers without winning the league again, but it remains one of the most supported clubs in the world.

Manchester City

Stadium: Etihad Stadium
Major era: Pep Guardiola, from 2016

City won their first Premier League title in dramatic style in 2011-12 with Sergio Aguero’s last-minute goal against QPR. Under Pep Guardiola they became the dominant force in England, winning four titles in a row from 2020-21 to 2023-24 and the 2023 treble including the club’s first Champions League. They also hold the record for most points in a season, 100. See our Premier League records page.

Liverpool

Stadium: Anfield
European Cups: 6

Liverpool were the most successful English club before the Premier League began, with 18 First Division titles. Their first Premier League crown came in 2019-20 under Jurgen Klopp, and they won again in 2024-25 under Arne Slot. Liverpool have also won six European Cups, more than any other English club.

Arsenal

Stadium: Emirates Stadium
Premier League titles: 4

Arsenal won three Premier League titles under Arsene Wenger, including the unbeaten Invincibles season of 2003-04. After years of near misses under Mikel Arteta, they won the 2025-26 Premier League, their first league title in 22 years, and also reached the 2026 Champions League final, where they lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

Chelsea

Stadium: Stamford Bridge
Premier League titles: 5

Chelsea’s rise began with Roman Abramovich’s takeover in 2003. Jose Mourinho delivered back-to-back titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and the club added league titles in 2009-10, 2014-15 and 2016-17, plus Champions League wins in 2012 and 2021.

Tottenham Hotspur

Stadium: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Highlight: 2019 Champions League final, 2025 Europa League winners

Tottenham have not won the Premier League, but they have one of the most modern stadiums in Europe and a history of attacking football. They reached the 2019 Champions League final and ended a long trophy drought by winning the Europa League in 2025.

The other champions

Only two clubs outside this group have won the Premier League: Blackburn Rovers (1994-95) and Leicester City (2015-16). Leicester’s title is still considered the biggest shock in modern sport.
